Detroit Metro Airport Ready to Expand With Virginia Transformer

There are many mission-critical uses of transformers, and powering a major airport and its air traffic control system would be near the top of the list. Virginia Transformer recently delivered a new power distribution transformer for the Wayne County Airport Authority in Detroit, Michigan (airline code DTW). Built at the company’s Roanoke plant, this 14/23.33 MVA, 13.8/12.47 kV unit will provide reliable power to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport as part of their North Powerhouse expansion project.

DTW is a major hub for domestic and international flights. With six runways, two terminals, and 129 in-service gates, the airport is Michigan’s busiest and serves more than 140 destinations worldwide.

This unit demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting our nation’s essential infrastructure, as one of the most significant international airports in the United States calls upon Virginia Transformer for its reliability. Congratulations!
