Virginia Transformer Helps Power NYC Transit Authority
Virginia Transformer recently manufactured a custom-engineered 2 MVA, 13.8/0.48 kV rectifier duty transformer for New York City Transit Authority’s 82nd Road underground substation. This unit will help power the Queens Boulevard Line (QBL), one of NYC’s busiest subway routes, serving more than 250,000 riders every day.
Part of a wider multi-substation renewal project, this upgrade will play a key role in ensuring reliable power for the city’s transit network. With 248 miles of routes and an annual ridership of more than 2 billion, the New York City Subway system is one of the longest and busiest in the world.
Virginia Transformer is proud to support the reliability and resiliency of public transit and other critical infrastructure by supplying the highest-quality transformers with the shortest lead times in the industry. Congratulations to all involved in engineering, shipping, and installing this unit!
