Virginia Transformer recently manufactured a custom-engineered 2 MVA, 13.8/0.48 kV rectifier duty transformer for New York City Transit Authority’s 82^nd Road underground substation. This unit will help power the Queens Boulevard Line (QBL), one of NYC’s busiest subway routes, serving more than 250,000 riders every day.

Part of a wider multi-substation renewal project, this upgrade will play a key role in ensuring reliable power for the city’s transit network. With 248 miles of routes and an annual ridership of more than 2 billion, the New York City Subway system is one of the longest and busiest in the world.
